Engineer I

Job Summary:

Assists Plant Engineer with implementation and on-going management of Trinchero Family Estates Process Safety Management programs for anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems at Central Valley and Napa Valley locations.   Acts as a PSM compliance liaison between facilities maintenance and engineering to ensure that key program elements are implemented and standardized across TFE locations.  Supports engineering and maintenance projects related to anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems.  Performs other engineering project management tasks as necessary.

  • Maintains Process Safety Management program elements and supporting documentation under direction of Plant Engineer.
  • Assists Central Valley and Napa Valley PSM teams with on-going program compliance by providing internally auditing, support for follow up action tracking, and project management.
  • Directly supports compliance audit, mechanical integrity inspection, and process hazard assessment activities and coordinates with Central Valley and Napa Valley staff as necessary.
  • Assists in managing organization's facilities and special projects as directed by the Plant Engineer and Director of Engineering including but not limited to refrigeration, heating, ventilating and air conditioning, emergency generators, plumbing, water treatment, and electric systems and all other Winery production related equipment. 
  • Interfaces with appropriate staff/managers to receive information regarding special project and facility needs; ensures timely response to requests.
  • Interfaces with appropriate staff, engineers, and outside contractors to review and/or develop renovation and new construction plans; coordinates communication with, and work of, outside contractors. 
  • Self motivated individual, able to conduct existing system operation research, operating cost metrics and apply learnings to value engineered solutions. 
  • Expected to, through the course of work, to obtain a basic knowledge of city and state building codes, OSHA requirements, and ADA laws; implements OSHA and ADA guidelines and programs.
  • Possesses and maintains basic mechanical systems, electrical, plumbing, construction materials and methods, as well a basic knowledge of structural systems and infrastructure systems as they relate to building construction and winery production equipment.
  • Responsible for understanding the Food Safety and Quality Management System and related activities, including the ISO Food Safety & Quality Policy.
  • Provide support to Engineering team and local Maintenance team in developing and maintaining budgets, schedules and other tracking systems as they relate to TFE projects, continuous maintenance and maintenance improvements.
  • Strong understanding of system safety and construction safety as it relates to daily operations and/or construction activities within the site, especially on or near Ammonia systems.  Able to contribute to ongoing efforts of safe working standards around ammonia.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (will consider experience, especial in food and beverage industries)
  • Years of Experience: Two years related experience or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ventilation/air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and construction materials and methods
  • Experience with mid size to large anhydrous Ammonia refrigeration systems (40 hour operator course, RETA certs, PSM/PHA experience, etc.)
  • Familiarity and/or Experience with REGAGAP (IIAR standards) and current best practice to maintain PSM, RM, and Cal-ARP programs.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels
  • Ability to manage priorities, workflow and meet deadlines
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Makes safety the highest priority
  • Ability to learn, understand, and develop schematics (electrical), P&ID’s, and various construction plans
  • AutoCAD (AutoDesk) software experience a plus.
  • Creative, flexible and innovative team player
  • Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
  • Ability to perform the physical labor necessary
  • Computer proficient in MS Word and Excel

 

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate physical work
  • Work site may be any one of Trinchero Family Estates’ facilities
  • Must comply with all safety equipment requirements including ear plugs and safety glasses
  • Exposure to various chemicals in production areas
  • Exposure to machinery, forklifts and related production equipment
  • Long and irregular hours during peak periods
  • Extensive walking and lifting of up to 55 pounds
