Position Summary:

 

Under general direction, the Harvest Night Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising the wine production process at Mumm Napa, including grape receipt, pressing, cellar additions, tank movements, and barrel operations during the second shift. The Harvest Night Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the efficient management of second shift staff and operations within the cellar to ensure quality wine production.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Follow all cellar protocols, standards and procedures.
  • Solve technical/processing problems as they arise.
  • Regular checking on cellar operations to ensure maintenance of quality standards and performance.
  • Lead incident reporting and participate in incident investigations for the second shift cellar team.
  • Inventory management of winemaking supplies
  • Challenge the status quo and look for new solutions to ongoing and new problems.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and food safety focus within the Cellar team.
  • Ensure efficient utilisation of staff and resources to meet Winemakers requirements and ensure production requirements are achieved
  • Positively influence the culture of winery operations in line with Company values.
  • Ensure effective intra and inter Departmental communication between all levels of employees within the Winery.
  • Participate in formal and informal team meetings as required.
  • Maintain an appropriate industrial environment for a safe and productive workplace.
  • Ensure quality control systems are promoted in accordance with Company Policy, Food Safety and Quality Systems.
  • Review cellar work orders and ensure proper assignment to employees. Coordinate with Cellar Master and Associate Winemaker regarding cellar work schedule.
  • Step in to cover cellar tasks as needed, to include forklift, pressing, additions, etc.
  • Basic computer literacy required to complete HR onboarding and safety training. Must be able to navigate HR and Microsoft systems independently.

 

 

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:

  • Working conditions in certain areas of the winery can be cold/hot, wet, slippery and noisy
  • Overtime, flexible hours, nights and weekends and the ability to work 12-hour shifts will be required during harvest
  • Handling hazardous materials and frequent walking, including going up and down stairs and ladders, dragging wine hoses and bending are required

 

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years of cellar experience operating and caring for filters, pumps, presses, hoses and other cellar equipment. Experience with grape pressing activities is key.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Leadership or supervisory experience
  • Ability to work in a changing environment with a commitment to continuous improvement and quality systems
  • Computer skills medium level of knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, word, PowerPoint, outlook). 
  • Self-motivated, industrious, honest and a high level of integrity
  • A demonstrated commitment to quality
  • Ability to work a full overnight shift during the peak harvest period (3-4 weeks)

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working managing continuous improvement initiatives
  • Spanish as second language.
  • Experienced in operating Crossflow Filter and Centrifuge
  • Forklift experience

Salary Range: $20.00 -  $25.00  

The starting pay will be based on several factors, including but not limited to experience, training, education, and geographic location.
