Job Summary:

Responsible for performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all vineyard equipment.  Under limited supervision, this position will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on tractors, vineyard implements, grape harvesters, ATV’s, RTVs, pickups, large trucks, and trailers.  Role is required to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in equipment and ensure all vineyard equipment is in a safe and operational condition.  The role requires the ability to effectively communicate with vineyard teams and leaders to prioritize and schedule repairs.

  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all equipment assigned to the vineyard area shops, including tractors, grape harvesters, and large trucks. Conduct inspections, repairs, and part replacements, ensuring all machines are operational and safe.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:  Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in various vineyard machinery. Utilize diagnostic tools to assess problems and apply effective repair techniques to minimize equipment downtime. 
  • Scheduling and Project Planning: Plan maintenance and repair jobs, manage projects, and create schedules to ensure equipment is serviced on time. Coordinate repairs with vineyard operations to support smooth workflows.
  • Electrical, Hydraulic, and Welding Repair: Apply knowledge of welding, electrical systems, and hydraulic repair to maintain and enhance vineyard equipment. Engage in occasional fabrication as necessary to improve or customize equipment.
  • New Equipment Installation and Supervision: Supervise the installation and implementation of new equipment, providing guidance to ensure proper setup and operation.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and regulations, including adherence to safety guidelines, usage of personal protective equipment (PPE), and proactive identification of potential hazards.
  • Inventory and Parts Management: Maintain inventory of parts and supplies for repair work, coordinating with suppliers to ensure needed components are available. Act as a liaison with machinery and parts suppliers to facilitate purchases and repairs.
  • Budget Preparation Support: Assist Vineyard Leaders with budget preparation, contributing insights on equipment needs, maintenance costs, and repair schedules.
  • Fleet and Equipment Coordination: Oversee the use of the vineyard truck to ensure the efficient distribution and pickup of vineyard equipment. Coordinate with vineyard managers to maintain a streamlined process for equipment allocation.
  • Fostering a Collaborative Work Environment: Promote cooperation within vineyard area shops and among vineyard area managers, encouraging teamwork and collaboration across departments and with Trinchero mechanics and managers.
  • Communication and Representation: Act as a company representative when interacting with suppliers and attend vineyard manager meetings to share equipment status updates, budget needs, and any operational concerns.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Document all maintenance and repair activities, ensuring detailed records are kept for budgeting, safety audits, and future reference.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance, with agricultural mechanic experience preferred.
  • Mechanical Skills: Proven ability to perform repairs and maintenance on a range of vineyard farming implements, including expertise in fabrication, welding, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating vineyard equipment and the tools commonly used in repair and maintenance shops, such as lathes, drill presses, band saws, and grinders.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities to address mechanical, electrical, and fabrication issues, with sound judgment when handling personnel matters.
  • Communication and Follow-Up: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong commitment to detailed follow-up and clarity in reporting.
  • Project Management: Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining efficiency and prioritization.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership qualities with the capacity to train, motivate, and support a team-oriented environment.
  • Drivers License: Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and meet all TFE requirements to operate a company fleet vehicle safely.
  • Language and Technical Skills:  Spanish/English bilingual skills and basic computer proficiency are preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate to heavy physical work
  • Work site may be any one of Trinchero Family Estates’ facilities- The primary work site shall be located at the Trinchero Eschinger Ranch Shop.  The Vineyard Mechanic will be asked from time to time to work at any of the Trinchero Vineyard locations (from Amador County to Santa Barbara)
  • Standing for long periods of time (8 hours per day)
  • Must comply with all safety equipment requirements including ear plugs and safety glasses
  • Exposure to various chemicals in production areas
  • Exposure to machinery, forklifts and related production equipment
  • Long and irregular hours during peak periods or on various shifts, including the Saturday and Sunday work associated with farming
  • Extensive walking and lifting of up to 55 pounds
  • Exposure to outside elements (heat, wet and/or damp conditions, cold)

Salary Range: $25.70 -  $31.40
