Job Summary:

To perform a variety of activities directed at maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency for tasks performed by field personnel.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises and directs the activities of field personnel. 
  • Carries out the work assigned by the Vineyard manager and delegates work to field personnel in an effective manner. 
  • Trains personnel in the areas of scheduling, methods, safety and rules / regulations related to vineyard functions. 
  • Maintains close supervision of the field crews at all times assuring proper procedures and quality of work as it relates to pruning, tying, suckering, canopy manipulation, thinning, grape harvest etc.
  • Perform and teach routine vineyard tasks including pruning, suckering, thining and canopy manipulation. 
  • When not supervising crews, the Supervisor / Foreman should be able to operate, trouble shoot and perform minor repairs on vineyard irrigation systems. 
  • The Supervisor should be able to identify and correct minor vineyard problems like broken stakes and endposts, vines that need to be tied or trained, vegetation that needs to be trimmed, broken wires etc. 
  • The candidate should have tractor operation, sprayer operation, shop and equipment maintenance, payroll computation and conflict resolution experience.
  • Adherence and understanding of Federal and State Food Safety Standards as it appears to harvesting and transportation of grapes for juice and wine production.

 

Qualifications:

  • Should have knowledge of vineyard activities and procedures, as would be normally attained through 5 plus years of hands-on vineyard experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience is desirable.  Ability to communicate effectively, and demonstrate reading, writing, basic computer and arithmetic skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication (English required; Spanish preferred)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.  A degree in viticulture, agriculture, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Two or more years of experience working in a vineyard or agricultural environment.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and be able to meet all TFE requirements as part of operating a company fleet vehicle for this role.
  • Attention to detail; ability to identify small changes is essential.
  • Reliability and promptness are essential. 
  • Must be able to follow directions, supervise and motivate field personnel, work beside vineyard crews for extended periods of time

 

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work at any of Trinchero’s locations
  • Handling numerous projects in progress at any given time
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Exposure to outside elements (heat, wet and/or damp conditions, cold)
  • Must comply with all safety equipment requirements
  • Exposure to various agriculture chemicals
  • Exposure to farming machinery and related equipment
  • Extensive walking and lifting of up to 55 pounds
  • Ability to work extended and long hours or on various shifts typically ranging from 8-12 hours per day (e.g. during harvest)

 

Salary Range: $23.30 -  $28.45
