Training & Development Manager

Job Summary:

The Manager of Training & Development, in partnership with internal Business Leaders, will lead TFE’s training and development initiatives both internally for employees and externally for customer partners. The successful leader will have strong skills and experience in the design, development and implementation of learning, development and change management initiatives and programs utilizing the tools and practices considered leading edge within a training and development organization.  The successful candidate will be responsible for selecting, creating and updating curriculum, and utilizing appropriate training delivery methods and facilitation skills to deliver structured as well as just-in-time training programs utilizing a decentralized train the trainer model that relies on business partner resources within tight budget parameters. This candidate will have the opportunity to touch all areas of our business and broaden his/her professional skill-set with knowledge and experience in the application of organizational development principles, practices and tools that support execution of business strategy.

  • Create and lead a matrix training organization that relies on partnership and collaboration to further the objectives of the business. The initiatives will be broad and diverse with examples including employee skill development, regulatory training, portfolio educational materials for internal and external resources, technology enhancements and change management initiatives among a myriad of other possibilities based upon business objectives and needs.
  • Partners with line and staff leaders to develop training and development strategies meet the organization’s medium and long term business goals, objectives and strategies.
  • Manages and implements the required training of team and ensures adherence to all policies, procedures and governmental regulations. 
  • Manages and implements career planning and personal development of staff.
  • Manages and ensures annual performance reviews are effective and completed on time.
  • Designs and develops standardized training programs utilizing a variety of in person and electronic medium that support organizational and individual employee development needs as well as supporting employee career development and succession management plans. 
  • Diagnoses performance issues and learning needs, identifies appropriate training-based solutions, and develops learning frameworks to facilitate achievement of business goals.
  • Responsible for building and progressing the Training and Development agenda for the company in partnership with key stakeholder groups while advocating and influencing best practice operational standards across the winery.
  • Recommends and manages a training and development budget and works with Line leaders to prioritize training needs, build and execute critical business training initiatives for both internal and external business partners all in support of key business initiatives, strategies and goals.
  • Employ leading methodologies for ensuring change related initiatives are accepted by the organization and utilizes a variety of change management techniques including communication, Change Champions and management to help deploy and educate in all aspects, maintaining a high level of user knowledge, throughout each TFE business area.
  • Develop success metrics to monitor and maximize delivery of training objectives and client experience across the enterprise. Ensure predetermined success criteria are developed and utilized in building training initiatives and ensuring the success of those initiatives. Ensure achievement of ROI for training initiatives.
  • Manage third party training vendors and define principles and standards to harmonize training methodologies.
  • Create and enable the tools for delivering and tracking of employee and customer partner training and development initiatives (e.g. LMS, Success Factors, etc.).
  • Responsible for the creation and management of TFE Training Policy.
  • Manages applications for ETP funding & process of securing reimbursement of funds.


  • Education:  Bachelors or Master’s degree in Business, Education or a related discipline
  • Years of Experience:  10+ years of progressive experience in the training or organizational development field within a consumer products manufacturing environment.  Operational environment training experience required.
  • Hands-on experience in training/portfolio resource planning, reporting, prioritization, and budgeting
  • Knowledge of training techniques and organizational development theories, adult learning principals, curriculum development techniques, such as ADDIE, and e-learning standards (e.g. SCORM and AICC)
  • Experience leading a training organization and building programs within a consumer products, sales or manufacturing environment as well as managing external providers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels  
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of the impact of training on overall performance
  • Action oriented project manager who successfully builds and manages cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work effectively in managing ambiguous situations and adapting to informal business-area cultures when encountered.  Effectively manage pressure.
  • Demonstrate ability to work flexibly, independently and handle multiple business and technology assignments concurrently within a changing environment
  • Ability to work with confidential information on a regular basis.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • A willingness to learn, grow and help move forward changes in business needs.
